First Class All Round

Everyone who knows us is aware of the pretty enormous benefit that we get from our daughter's employment.  It allows us to travel much more than we could ever have dreamed, albeit generally on a standby basis.  The uncertainties of standby can be a little unnerving because you can turn up at the airport and end up going nowhere on that particular day.  This trip is unusual because we are not only using the services of British Airways but three other airlines as well and this meant booking some firm tickets.  It is a luxury because you turn up basically knowing that you are going to fly.
I had mentioned in a previous post about my Yorkshire trait of spending money sometimes reluctantly but always wisely but today, I threw that policy to the wind because on our flight to The Big Island, I booked us into seats 1A and 1B in First Class!  Madness really but it was a decision born out of commonsense because when I worked out all the ancillary charges for baggage, seats and whatever else, it turned out that for a few quid more, we could travel at the front of the aircraft.
Linda had absolutely no idea and so when we checked in, cleared security and I asked for directions to the Hawaiin Airlines Premier Club lounge, she looked at me open mouthed!  It was lovely to pass a couple of hours here, to board the aircraft first and then receive the first drinks handed out on the flight.  However, to counterbalance what sounds a lovely experience, the flight time was a mere 35 minutes!  Good fun if just for Linda's reaction.
And so to Big Island which after Oahu is BIG!  Flying towards it, we could see that the scale was so much greater and also that it was much less inhabited.  Result after the pace of Oahu and it bodes well for the four days that we are here.
The post is shorter tonight because while we did explore a little today, tomorrow we hit the volcano National Park where we hope to get up close and personal to some real lava flows.  We were also quite late getting to our Airbnb accommodation and what a spectacular place we have fallen upon.  I have included a photo tonight which shows the view from our loft bedroom!  Spectacular and feeling quite smug at my choice.
More tomorrow and not as rushed.
