Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...! It's Awfully Cold Here!

Well, we made it!  Yes, despite the grim weather here in Denver, the 440 mile journey from Alberquerque was trouble free and amazingly, we were able to check into our hotel at 11.30am!  Mind you, we did leave our hotel at 4am this morning but seemed to cover the first 200 miles in the blink of an eye.
Since we first visited America in 1989, I have always loved the motoring here.  Americans may think I'm mad but they ought to try driving long distances in the UK!  This morning was a prime example of why I love it so much.  Hardly any traffic for the first 300 miles of our journey.  Cruise control set at 80mph (yes the speed limit is 75 on I25!) and for the first two hours of our journey, I didn't have to touch it once.  It's incredible and apart from staying awake, this is the most stress free driving you could ever experience.  Oh, and for good measure, add in that the weather was perfect with the most impressive sunrise!  It doesn't get any better for me but it has been said on many occasions that I am easily pleased.
Arrival in Denver was a shock to the system however, not least the 4" of laying snow and the temperature gauge recording freezing.  For the last few miles, the snow was icing on the windscreen making it extremely difficult to drive!  Enough about the weather because hopefully, tomorrow night we should be stepping out into temperatures somewhere North of 80 degrees.
Anybody reading this Blog will know that we had a great time in Albuquerque but I did forget to mention in previous posts that we did take in a little history while we were there in the form of the Petroglyph National Monument.  Hands up who knows what a Petroglyph is?  No, me neither!
Basically, it's a type of drawing on a boulder although for a more detailed explanation, Google it! Around Albuquerque, there are thousands of them, some of which are believed to be 3000 years old.  The meaning of some of the drawings are still a mystery but from the simplicity of some of them, my interpretation is that it was a way of entertaining the kids.  Basically it was an entertainment stop-gap while they waited for the internet to arrive!  Anyway, it was fascinating to walk among hundreds of boulders and see the variety of artwork on show.  We were glad we visited.
So Tuesday beckons and we have a flight to Los Angeles with Southwest and a connecting flight with American Airlines to Honolulu.  It's yet another day of travelling but as I keep reminding Linda, if you want to visit places like Hawaii, it involves time on a plane!
We are looking forward to a little bit slower pace of life for the next 10 days but we shall see!
Next report from Oahu.
